The theory of evolution is refuted in a brief way.

This lesson concludes the refutation of the theory of evolution.
Lesson 111.5--"God Created Man In His Own Image"
This lesson discusses the distinction of man from the animal world, with
emphasis on his spiritual nature.
Lesson 111.6--"Man Became a Living Soul"
This lesson shows the definitions and distinctions of "soul" and "spirit."
Lesson 111.7--"Male and Female Created He Them"
This lesson discusses the relationship between men and women, and the roles
God has designed for each sex to fulfill.
MONTH 2
Theme for the month: THE TEMPTATION AND FALL OF ADAM AND EVE
Lesson 112.1-- "God Made Man Upright, But They Have Sought Out Many Inven-
tions."
This lesson introduces the student to the true nature of sin, and how we enter
into sin. Calvinistic concepts are refuted, showing that all sinners sin by choice.
Lesson 112.2--Satan-The Liar and Deceiver
This lesson discusses the role of Satan in the fall of Adam and Eve, and the
descriptions of his continuing work that are found in the New Testament.
Lesson 112.3--The Triple Temptation of Eve
This lesson shows that Eve was tempted in all the ways presented in 1 John 2:15
17. It also shows that Christ was tempted in the same three ways.
Lesson 112.4--"She Gave Unto Her Husband and He Did Eat."
This lesson draws a distinction between the sins of Adam and Eve, and shows the
remedy applied to each in both the Old and the New Testaments.
Lesson 112.5--"In The Day You Eat Thereof, You Shall Surely Die"
This lesson discusses the principle of spiritual death, and shows that Adam and
Eve died such a death on the day they ate of the forbidden fruit.
Lesson 112.6--Consequences of Disobedience (To Adam, Eve, and Satan)
The title of the lesson shows the subject that is discussed in it.
Lesson 112.7--"As in Adam All Die, So In Christ Shall All Be Made Alive"
The impact of Adam's sin is seen in this lesson, and the deliverance that is
provided by Jesus Christ, through His death.

Theme of the month: LESSONS FROM THE LIVES OF THE PATRIARCHS
Lesson 113.1--The Principle of Sacrifice in Salvation
This lesson uses the example of Abel's sacrifice to discuss the place that sacrifice
fills in God's scheme of redemption. Emphasis is on Christ's sacrifice.
Lesson 113.2--"Wherefore Slew He Him"
This lesson contrasts the characters and actions of Cain and Abel, showing that
the same types of people populate the world today.
Lesson 113.3--"Enoch Walked With God, and...God Took Him"
Enoch's remarkable righteousness is discussed in this lesson, and emphasis is
placed on the subject of "walking with God."
Lesson 113.4--Saved Like Noah
The salvation of Noah and his family from the great flood is used as a pattern of
our own salvation, showing that the elements of his salvation apply to us, today.
Lesson 113.5--"Standing on the Promises of God"
This lesson discusses the promise made to Abraham by God, and its fulfillment in
Christ. Emphasis is placed on Paul's interpretations of the promise.
Lesson 113.6--"In Isaac Shall Your Seed Be Called"
This lesson traces the tentative progressions of faith exhibited by Abraham, and
emphasizes the need for a growing faith in all believers.
Lesson 113.7--Defining the Faith of the Patriarchs
This lesson shows the role of "works" in making faith valid, but examines the
differences between the teaching of Paul and James on the same subject.

Lesson 121.2--Melchizedek-Priest and King of Salem
The brief meeting of Melchizedek with Abraham, and its importance in supporting the prophecies concerning Christ, is emphasized in this lesson.
Lesson 121.3--Lot's Foolish Choices
This lesson shows that it is possible to remain righteous while living among
perverted sinners, but that such a choice is foolish when it effects our family.
Lesson 121.4--Abraham's Bargain with God Over Sodom and Gomorrah
This lesson teaches us the proper reverential attitude we must have when we
approach God to petition him for blessings.
Lesson 121.5--Abraham's Servant-Eliezer of Damascus
The traits of a good and faithful servant are shown in this lesson about Eliezer,
whose loyalty to Abraham reflects the kind of loyalty we must show to God.
Lesson 121.6--The Patient Sufferer-Job
This lesson shows that the "integrity" of Job was the trait which sustained him
through his long ordeal of suffering.
Lesson 121.7--The Un-identical Twins of Isaac and Rebekah
The characters and actions of Jacob and Esau are contrasted in this lesson, ending
in the account of their reconciliation after many years.

Theme for the month: LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF JACOB AND HIS FAMILY
Lesson 122.1--Jacob's Ladder to Heaven
The significance of the vision of Jacob, and the influence it had over him, are
shown in this lesson.
Lesson 122.2--The Deceiver is Deceived
This lesson shows how the unnecessary deceptions of Jacob were returned on
him by another deceiver. Emphasis is given to the destiny of false teachers.
Lesson 122.3--"Family Matters"
This lesson shows the sorrows and problems that came from the polygamous
family of Jacob, and focuses on the sins that polygamy may cause.
Lesson 122.4--God Helps Jacob to Profit From Laban's Greed
This lesson shows that Jacob received help from God, as his chosen instrument to
carry out his purposes. The sin of greed is contrasted with generosity.
Lesson 122.5--Simeon and Levi Avenge the Abuse of Their Sister
The vengeance of Simeon and Levi is refuted by other teaching in the Bible.
Lesson 122.6--Favoritism in Israel's House
This lesson shows the problems of showing partiality, using Jacob's favoritism as
an example.
Lesson 122.7--Judah-The Tribe Of Kings
This lessons takes the incident of Jacob's final blessing of his sons to show that
the tribe of Judah, from which Christ came, was destined to rule in Israel.

As individual responsibility was thrust on Joseph through his misfortune, this
lesson emphasizes the things in which all Christians must stand alone.
Lesson 123.2--The Excellent Steward
This lesson uses Joseph's example to show the characteristics of a proper
steward. New Testament forms of stewardship are emphasized.
Lesson 123.3--Fornication-A Sin Against God?
The attempt on the part of the wife of Potiphar to persuade Joseph to commit
fornication is used as an example to show the wrong in all kinds of fornication.
Lesson 123.4--Patiently Waiting for Justice
This lesson shows that when we suffer from injustice, like Joseph, we need to
develop his brand of patience. New Testament examples are emphasized.
Lesson 123.5--"Do Not Interpretations Belong To God?"
Dreams, as a form of prophecy, are shown by example in Joseph's life, but the
end of all prophecy is also shown in this lesson.
Lesson 123.6--"God Sent Me Before You"
This is a lesson on the providence of God, and how we can interpret things which
happen to us as providential.
Lesson 123.7--Reunion and Restoration
This lesson shows that forgiveness is the route to follow for the reconciliation
and restoration of families, including the family of God.

Theme for the month: LESSONS FROM THE LIFE AND WORK OF MOSES
Lesson 131.1--The Baby In The Ark Of Bulrushes
Moses' birth and early life provide the themes of this lesson, showing the passive
resistance of his parents, and of Pharoah's daughter, to the evil will of Pharoah. The
story is used as a guide to our own behavior in similar circumstances.
Lesson 131.2--Another Way To Be A Hero
Moses' choice to abandon his privileges as the son of Pharoah's daughter, in
order to share ill-treatment with his people, provides the basis of this lesson.
Lesson 131.3--A Leader Chosen By God
This lesson tells of Moses being chosen to lead the people of Israel from captivity
in Egypt, and God's rebuke of his reluctance to accept the assignment.
Lesson 131.4--The Trials of Leadership
This lesson shows how Moses handled opposition to his leadership with the help
of God. The points of the lesson are applied to leadership roles in the church.
Lesson 131.5--The Deliverer of Israel
Moses is compared to Christ as a deliverer in this lesson. Moses' work was in the
realm of earthly events, but that of Christ is shown to be in the spiritual realm.
Lesson 131.6--The Lawgiver
Again, Moses is compared to Christ in the role of a lawgiver, showing the
difference between the two laws attributed to them.
Lesson 131.7--"You Sanctified Me Not"
This Lesson shows the error of Moses which kept him from being able to enter
into the promised land with his people, and warns against imitating him.

Theme for the month: LESSONS FROM THE LAW OF MOSES
Lesson 132.1--The Ten Commandments
This lesson deals with each of the Ten Commandments, showing that they were
only a part of the Law, and that each one has a New Testament counterpart.
Lesson 132.2--Laws Governing Violent Crimes
Laws punishing violence are grouped together in this lesson from the books of
the Law. It shows that the punishment of such today is left to the government.
Lesson 132.3--Laws of Equity
These laws deal with the justice to be practiced in Israel regarding property,
slavery, business, courts, and the practice of benevolence.
Lesson 132.4--Shadows In The Tabernacle
The plan of the Tabernacle is shown in this lesson to provide a pattern for the
establishment of the spiritual Temple of Christ, the church.
Lesson 132.5--Laws Governing Worship
Rules regarding the worship of Israel, including sacrifice, offerings, and vows,
are shown in this lesson, with a warning against idolatry and occultism.
Lesson 132.6--Atonement, Passover, and Christ
The two feasts of Atonement and Passover are connected with teaching about
Christ in this lesson, showing the spiritual significance of these feasts.
Lesson 132.7--The Ritual Laws
The Law of Moses contained many instructions having to do with rituals of
worship, and the conduct of the priests who performed them. These points are
connected with the priesthood of Christians.

Lesson 133.1--Laws On Marriage And Sexual Sins
This lesson collects the various laws of Moses having to do with marriage,
divorce, and fornication. New Testament rules are compared to them.
Lesson 133.2--Laws On Ceremonial Uncleanness
This lesson deals with the significance, both physical and spiritual, of the laws
requiring cleanliness among the Israelites, and their connection to the Christian life.
Lesson 133.3--Dietary and Proprietary Laws
The dietary laws, and the proper conduct of those observing them, are the basis
of this lesson. They are contrasted with the teaching of the New Testament.
Lesson 133.4--Laws Regarding Attitudes Toward God
This lesson deals with blasphemy against God, and the punishment of those who
engaged in it. We are warned against the blasphemy of "despising the word."
Lesson 133.5--Laws of Generosity
Warnings against oppressing the poor, and rules to govern the relief of the poor
and of animals are shown in this lesson, then applied to Christians.
Lesson 133.6--The Blessing and the Curse
This lesson is based on that portion of Deuteronomy having to do with lists of
blessings and curses to be placed on memorial stones for the Israelites.
Lesson 133.7--The Final Admonitions Of Moses
The admonitions of Moses to Israel, as they were preparing to conquer the land
of Canaan, is the basis of this lesson.

This lesson shows the forms of idolatry practiced by Israel, and shows also the
modern forms of idolatry found among the people of God today.
Lesson 141.2--The Confessions of Aaron
This lesson deals with the mistakes of Aaron, and his two types of confession,
showing the proper way to confess our sins to God.
Lesson 141.3--"Let Not The Hair Of Your Heads Go Loose"
This lesson is about the sin of Nadab and Abihu in Leviticus 10, and the way
Aaron and his surviving sons had to deal with the punishment visited by God.
Lesson 141.4--"Let Us Go Up...And Possess It"
This deals with the mistakes of Israel in first refusing to go into the land of
Canaan with God's help, and later trying to go in without His help.
Lesson 141.5--"Give Us Flesh To Eat"
This lesson shows the sin of Israel in murmuring against God and Moses about
their "diet," and other things. Contentment is shown as a proper attitude.
Lesson 141.6--Korah's Rebellion
This draws lessons for us from the rebellion instigated by Korah against the rule
of Moses and Aaron over Israel. It warns against resisting divine authority.
Lesson 141.7--"If I Be Lifted Up"
This lesson draws a comparison between the raising of the brass serpent by
Moses to save Israel from serpents, and the "lifting up" of Christ for our salvation.

Theme for the month: LESSONS FROM THE PERIOD OF THE JUDGES
Lesson 142.1--Joshua, the Chosen Leader of Israel
This lesson traces the development of Joshua as the leader of Israel, and how his
growth as a leader offers advice to leaders in the church today.
Lesson 142.2--"The Lord Raised Up Judges"
The system of Judges for Israel is discussed in this lesson, and the work of the
first three judges is shown. The experience of Israel is used to warn against similar
mistakes on the part of God's people today.
Lesson 142.3--The Victory Song Of Deborah
The righteousness of the first woman Judge of Israel is shown in the lesson, and
she is set forth as a worthy example for Christian women.
Lesson 142.4--Gideon, A Victor Over Fear And Pride
This lesson shows the fine traits of Gideon in accepting a commission from God,
and then performing it in an exemplary humble fashion.
Lesson 142.5--"I Have Opened My Mouth...And I Cannot Go Back"
This deals with the tragic experience of Jephthah, as Judge of Israel, and draws a
lesson against making rash vows and promises.
Lesson 142.6--Samson, A Strange Tool Of God
The flaws of this legendary Judge of Israel, and the use God made of him, are
presented in this lesson. It shows how God can use imperfect people for his work.
Lesson 142.7--Samuel, The Last Judge Of Israel
The transition from the period of the Judges to the Kingdom period is shown in
this lesson, with Samuel's role emphasized.
MONTH 3
Theme for the month: THE REIGN OF KING SAUL AND DAVID'S EARLY LIFE
Lesson 143.1--The Beginning Of The Kingdom
This lesson shows how God set conditions for a king over Israel, and deals with
the events that led to the establishment of the conditional kingdom.
Lesson 143.2--The Failures of King Saul
This lesson shows Saul's reign as a sample of the way the kingdom would first
flourish, then decline. The mistakes of Saul are rebuked by Samuel.
Lesson 143.3--David Walks Wisely
This shows how David gained fame by the circumspect way in which he served
King Saul. Yet, his rise in popularity did not prompt him to overthrow the king and
usurp the throne.
Lesson 143.4--The Hero Becomes An Outcast
The jealousy of King Saul was unfounded, but David had to flee from it. The
righteousness of David in dealing with Saul is emphasized.
Lesson 143.5--Jonathan's Choice
This lesson shows the discretion of Jonathan, Saul's son, in choosing to be loyal
to David rather than to his father. Other examples of good choices are shown.
Lesson 143.6--David Vs. The Amalekites
This draws lessons from David's assumption of the task first given to Saul, who
did not fully perform what God commanded him toward the Amalekites.
Lesson 143.7--Enemies of David-Within and Without
This lesson shows the opposition of Abner, the enemy of David without, and
Joab, the enemy within, and how David dealt with them in a righteous way.

This lesson shows the excellence of the reign of David, and how all succeeding
reigns of Judah's kings were judged by comparison with his high standards.
Lesson 211.2--The Permanence of David's Dynasty
The promise of a continual dynasty which God made to David is shown in this
lesson, and how that Jesus is the ultimate heir of this promise.
Lesson 211.3--David Learns a Lesson in Bible Interpretation
The experience of David in moving the Ark of the Covenant serves as a lesson
on respecting the exclusive nature of specific commands.
Lesson 211.4--David's Sin and Its Consequences
The sin of David brought continuing evil consequences, even though he was
forgiven in the fashion of forgiveness promised in the New Testament.
Lesson 211.5--David's Plan to Build the Temple
This lesson shows that God approved the building of the Temple, even though
he did not allow David to build it. The church is compared to the Temple.
Lesson 211.6--Solomon's Reign: From Glory to Ruin
The good and evil traits of Solomon are shown in this lesson, and how his failure
to repent brought his glorious kingdom to ruin.
Lesson 211.7--The End of the United Kingdom--Rehoboam vs. Jeroboam
This lesson shows how the kingdom became divided through the foolishness of
Rehoboam, son of Solomon, and Jeroboam's exploitation of this opportunity.
MONTH 2
Theme for the month: FOOLISH AND WISE KINGS OF JUDAH
Lesson 212.1--The Folly of King Asa
This lesson shows how King Asa, after gaining a victory over one nation by trust
in God, used human tactics to try to gain a victory over another nation.
Lesson 212.2--The Folly of King Joash
This shows that Joash was faithful to God, but only as long as his spiritual
advisor lived. Then he turned away from righteousness to commit evil.
Lesson 212.3--The Folly of King Amaziah
King Amaziah tried to gain military advantage by hiring mercenary soldiers.
When he is rebuked, he trusts God to help him, and wins a great victory over Edom,
then he foolishly adopts the gods of the Edomites, who were impotent to help them.
Lesson 212.4--The Folly of King Uzziah
This lesson shows how a good king can be ruined by pride, which causes him to
presume that he can do something which God does not authorize.
Lesson 212.5--The Reformation of Jehoshaphat
This lesson shows how King Jehoshaphat served the Lord faithfully, even
though he was rebuked for being too tolerant toward the wicked kings of Israel.
Lesson 212.6--The Reformation of Hezekiah
This lesson reviews the very thorough reforms led by King Hezekiah, but shows
also the mistake he made in revealing his wealth to the Chaldeans.
Lesson 212.7--The Reformation of Josiah
This lesson shows how the great reforms Josiah led fulfilled a prophecy of God.
However, like the other reformer kings, he also made a tragic mistake.
MONTH 3
Theme for the month: LESSONS FROM THE KINGDOM OF ISRAEL
Lesson 213.1--The Tragedy of the Prophet Who Came From Judah
This lesson shows the tragic mistake made by the "man of God out of Judah,"
after he successfully fulfilled his mission to speak against the altat of Jeroboam. It
illustrates that we cannot always trust the word of self-proclaimed prophets.
Lesson 213.2--Trying to Convert Ahab
This shows the extraordinary efforts of God to convince him that he needed to
turn from Idolatry back to the True God. All of God's efforts were fruitless.
Lesson 213.3--When God Permitted His Prophet to Lie
This lesson is based on the incident when King Ahab of Israel persuaded
Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, to fight a battle with him, and how the prophet of God
repeated the lie of the false prophets, so that Ahab would be killed in the Battle.
Lesson 213.4--"Ye Are the Salt of the Earth"
This lesson illustrates the teaching of Jesus in the Title, by recalling the incident of
the prophet helping a wicked king because of the presence of a good king.
Lesson 213.5--The Benevolent Miracles of Elisha
This lesson compares the benevolent miracles recorded in the first few chapters
of 2 Kings to those performed by Jesus in His day.
Lesson 213.6--The King Who Needed More Zeal
This shows how King Joash of Israel lacked zeal in believing and implementing
the promises of God, spoken by Elisha.
Lesson 213.7--Good People In a Wicked Nation
This lesson recounts the stories of some righteous people who lived in the
northern breakaway kingdom of Israel, and of the existence of 7000 others.

Lesson 221.1--Two Kingdoms of Israelites Fall
This lesson shows how the northern Kingdom of Israel was misdirected from the
first, and soon fell. It also shows the reasons for the decline and fall of Judah.
Lesson 221.2--Prophets of Doom for the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah
This lesson shows the work of the prophets whom God sent to the two nations,
and how they were rejected by those nations to their own destruction.
Lesson 221.3--Prophets of Doom to the Nations
This lesson shows how the prophets of God also spoke of the destruction of
other nations, and applies the lesson the nations of today.
Lesson 221.4--Jonah: Prophet to Niniveh
The story of the book of Jonah is the basis of this lesson, and is applied to us.
Lesson 221.5--Ezekiel: Prophet to the Captives
The work of Ezekiel, who was commissioned by God to prophesy to the nation
of Judah in Babylonian captivity, is the basis of this lesson.
Lesson 221.6--Daniel: Prophet to the Captors
The work of Daniel, as an advisor to the kings of Babylon and Persia, is shown in
this lesson.
Lesson 221.7--The Prophets of the Return
The work of the post-exile prophets is told in this lesson, with their theme of

Lesson 222.1--The "Messianic" Psalms
This lesson shows that the writers of the Psalms were also prophets, and that

This lesson examines the variety and content of the Psalms with themes of praise
contained in them.
Lesson 222.3--The Problem of the "Imprecatory" Psalms
This lesson examines the presumed "problem" of Psalms which petition God for
violent physical punishment of the wicked, and how they can be interpreted.

This lesson reviews the teaching of the treatise found in the first nine chapters of
Proverbs, and of several of the shorter "dissertations" in the book.

of the Messiah, His character, and His work.
Lesson 223.3--Kingdom (Church) Prophecies
This lesson shows how the prophecies regarding the coming of the Kingdom of
God are fulfilled in the emergence of the church of Christ.
Lesson 223.4--Prophecies of the New Covenant
This examines those prophecies that predict the formation of a New Covenant,
especially the prophecy of Jeremiah 31.

This lesson shows how the Lord intended to expand His reign from the parochial
nation of Israel to include all nations of men.
Lesson 223.6--The "Remnant" Prophecies
This lesson examines the destiny of the nation of Israel, and shows how a
"remnant" of them will be saved under the new universal covenant of God.

This lesson traces the history of the 400 year period between the return of Israel
from captivity, and the preparatory work of John the baptizer.
