Lesson 211.1--David--The Standard of Kingship
This lesson shows the excellence of the reign of David, and how all succeeding
reigns of Judah's kings were judged by comparison with his high standards.
Lesson 211.2--The Permanence of David's Dynasty
The promise of a continual dynasty which God made to David is shown in this
lesson, and how that Jesus is the ultimate heir of this promise.
Lesson 211.3--David Learns a Lesson in Bible Interpretation
The experience of David in moving the Ark of the Covenant serves as a lesson
on respecting the exclusive nature of specific commands.
Lesson 211.4--David's Sin and Its Consequences
The sin of David brought continuing evil consequences, even though he was
forgiven in the fashion of forgiveness promised in the New Testament.
Lesson 211.5--David's Plan to Build the Temple
This lesson shows that God approved the building of the Temple, even though
he did not allow David to build it. The church is compared to the Temple.
Lesson 211.6--Solomon's Reign: From Glory to Ruin
The good and evil traits of Solomon are shown in this lesson, and how his failure
to repent brought his glorious kingdom to ruin.
Lesson 211.7--The End of the United Kingdom--Rehoboam vs. Jeroboam
This lesson shows how the kingdom became divided through the foolishness of
Rehoboam, son of Solomon, and Jeroboam's exploitation of this opportunity.

Theme for the month: FOOLISH AND WISE KINGS OF JUDAH
Lesson 212.1--The Folly of King Asa
This lesson shows how King Asa, after gaining a victory over one nation by trust
in God, used human tactics to try to gain a victory over another nation.
Lesson 212.2--The Folly of King Joash
This shows that Joash was faithful to God, but only as long as his spiritual
advisor lived. Then he turned away from righteousness to commit evil.
Lesson 212.3--The Folly of King Amaziah
King Amaziah tried to gain military advantage by hiring mercenary soldiers.
When he is rebuked, he trusts God to help him, and wins a great victory over Edom,
then he foolishly adopts the gods of the Edomites, who were impotent to help them.
Lesson 212.4--The Folly of King Uzziah
This lesson shows how a good king can be ruined by pride, which causes him to
presume that he can do something which God does not authorize.
Lesson 212.5--The Reformation of Jehoshaphat
This lesson shows how King Jehoshaphat served the Lord faithfully, even
though he was rebuked for being too tolerant toward the wicked kings of Israel.
Lesson 212.6--The Reformation of Hezekiah
This lesson reviews the very thorough reforms led by King Hezekiah, but shows
also the mistake he made in revealing his wealth to the Chaldeans.
Lesson 212.7--The Reformation of Josiah
This lesson shows how the great reforms Josiah led fulfilled a prophecy of God.
However, like the other reformer kings, he also made a tragic mistake.

Theme for the month: LESSONS FROM THE KINGDOM OF ISRAEL
Lesson 213.1--The Tragedy of the Prophet Who Came From Judah
This lesson shows the tragic mistake made by the "man of God out of Judah,"
after he successfully fulfilled his mission to speak against the altat of Jeroboam. It
illustrates that we cannot always trust the word of self-proclaimed prophets.
Lesson 213.2--Trying to Convert Ahab
This shows the extraordinary efforts of God to convince him that he needed to
turn from Idolatry back to the True God. All of God's efforts were fruitless.
Lesson 213.3--When God Permitted His Prophet to Lie
This lesson is based on the incident when King Ahab of Israel persuaded
Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, to fight a battle with him, and how the prophet of God
repeated the lie of the false prophets, so that Ahab would be killed in the Battle.
Lesson 213.4--"Ye Are the Salt of the Earth"
This lesson illustrates the teaching of Jesus in the Title, by recalling the incident of
the prophet helping a wicked king because of the presence of a good king.
Lesson 213.5--The Benevolent Miracles of Elisha
This lesson compares the benevolent miracles recorded in the first few chapters
of 2 Kings to those performed by Jesus in His day.
Lesson 213.6--The King Who Needed More Zeal
This shows how King Joash of Israel lacked zeal in believing and implementing
the promises of God, spoken by Elisha.
Lesson 213.7--Good People In a Wicked Nation
This lesson recounts the stories of some righteous people who lived in the
northern breakaway kingdom of Israel, and of the existence of 7000 others.

Lesson 221.1--Two Kingdoms of Israelites Fall
This lesson shows how the northern Kingdom of Israel was misdirected from the
first, and soon fell. It also shows the reasons for the decline and fall of Judah.
Lesson 221.2--Prophets of Doom for the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah
This lesson shows the work of the prophets whom God sent to the two nations,
and how they were rejected by those nations to their own destruction.
Lesson 221.3--Prophets of Doom to the Nations
This lesson shows how the prophets of God also spoke of the destruction of
other nations, and applies the lesson the nations of today.
Lesson 221.4--Jonah: Prophet to Niniveh
The story of the book of Jonah is the basis of this lesson, and is applied to us.
Lesson 221.5--Ezekiel: Prophet to the Captives
The work of Ezekiel, who was commissioned by God to prophesy to the nation
of Judah in Babylonian captivity, is the basis of this lesson.

this lesson.

This lesson examines the variety and content of the Psalms with themes of praise
contained in them.

This lesson examines the presumed "problem" of Psalms which petition God for
violent physical punishment of the wicked, and how they can be interpreted.

This lesson reviews the teaching of the treatise found in the first nine chapters of
Proverbs, and of several of the shorter "dissertations" in the book.

of the Messiah, His character, and His work.

This lesson shows how the prophecies regarding the coming of the Kingdom of
God are fulfilled in the emergence of the church of Christ.
Lesson 223.4--Prophecies of the New Covenant
This examines those prophecies that predict the formation of a New Covenant,
especially the prophecy of Jeremiah 31.
Lesson 223.5--Prophecies on the Inclusion of the Gentiles
This lesson shows how the Lord intended to expand His reign from the parochial
nation of Israel to include all nations of men.
Lesson 223.6--The "Remnant" Prophecies
This lesson examines the destiny of the nation of Israel, and shows how a
"remnant" of them will be saved under the new universal covenant of God.
Lesson 223.7--Between the Testaments
This lesson traces the history of the 400 year period between the return of Israel
from captivity, and the preparatory work of John the baptizer.

Lesson 231.1--The Pre-existence of Christ
This lesson shows that of all the people who have walked the earth, Jesus is
unique in having a pre-existence. His divine part in creation and revelation are
emphasized.
Lesson 231.2--The Birth of Jesus, The Messiah
This lesson deals with the prophecies regarding Christ's birth, and emphasizes
the details of Micah 5:2.
Lesson 231.3--The Advent and Mission of Jesus
The credentials of Jesus as the Christ are discussed in this lesson, and the
purposes of his first coming into the world.
Lesson 231.4--Worshippers of the Babe
This lesson examines the significance of the adoration of the shepherds and the
Wise Men, and their examples as worshippers of the infant Jesus.
Lesson 231.5--The Flight Into Egypt
The significance of Jesus' escape from the threat of Herod is the theme of this
lesson, and how the journey into Egypt fulfilled certain prophecies.
Lesson 231.6--The Amazing Child
This lesson draws on the incident recorded by Luke when Jesus' parents took
him to Jerusalem at the age of twelve. It shows the wisdom he had at that age.
Lesson 231.7--"He Was Subject To Them"
The youth of Jesus is shown as an example of submission to godly parents by
children. Even though he was the Christ, he pleased God and man by submission.

Theme for the month: LESSONS FROM THE EARLY WORK OF JESUS
Lesson 232.1--The Testimony of John
This shows the significance of the appearance of John, before Jesus began to do
his work.
Lesson 232.2--The Temptation of Jesus
This lesson examines the general problem of handling temptation, using Jesus as
an example of successful resistance.
Lesson 232.3--A Visit To Nazareth
This lesson discusses the rejection Jesus experienced when He returned to His
home village, and revealed to his neighbors there that He was the Christ.
Lesson 232.4--First Miracles
This lesson draws points from the first miracle (water into wine), and the first
healings performed by Jesus.
Lesson 232.5--Jesus Chooses Disciples
The various ways Jesus used to call His disciples are discussed in this lesson, and
shows the good qualities of these men who were later to be His Apostles.
Lesson 232.6--Jesus Cleanses the Temple
This lesson shows the indignation of Jesus toward those who would "make
merchandise" in the Temple, contrary to the purpose of the House of God.
Lesson 232.7--A Visit From Nicodemus
The nocturnal visit of Nicodemus to Jesus is discussed in this lesson, and the
lesson Jesus taught about being "born again."

This lesson examines the Beatitudes individually, and ties them to other teaching
in the Bible on the same subjects.

This lesson of Jesus shows the meaning of his figurative descriptions of the
righteous as "salt" and "light."
Lesson 233.4--Moses' Law Fulfilled By Christ's
This lesson discusses the contrasts Jesus taught between the Law of Moses, and
His own teaching that would be a part of the New Covenant.

the faith of the one healed is essential to being miraculously healed.
Lesson 242.4--"The Dead Are Raised Up"
The significance of the three incidents of the raising of the dead by Jesus are
discussed in this lesson.

showing the fulfillment of Messiah prophecies in the work of Christ.
Lesson 243.3--Binding the Old--Previewing the New
This lesson shows that Jesus, while living in a time when the Old Covenant was
still in force, yet taught the principles which would be applied in the New.
Lesson 243.4--The New Atonement Sacrifice
This lesson shows how the single death-sacrifice of Christ is the fulfillment of the
long string of annual Atonement Offerings under the Law of Moses.
Lesson 243.5--The Universal Covenant
This lesson shows how Jesus, though He said His mission was to save "the lost of
the house of Israel," also expanded His work to embrace the Gentiles.
Lesson 243.6--Other Sacrificial Images
