INTRODUCTION-- 2 Chronicles 32:24-26
A. Hezekiah was one of the greatest kings of Israel.
1. A prosperous king. vss. 27-30
2. A thorough reformer. 2 Kings 18:3-6
3. A faithful servant of God. 2 Chronicles 31:20-21
B. But he also made mistakes. 2 Chronicles 32:31
LESSON--
A. God's first message, "Set your house in order."
2 Kings 20:1
1. Hezekiah prays and God changes his mind. Vss. 2-7
2. God gives him assurance by a sign. Vss. 8-11
B. Pride takes over. Vss. 12-15
1. Remember that the Scripture says, "Hezekiah rendered not
again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was
lifted up."
2. The Prophet Isaiah rebukes this fault. Vss. 16-19
APPLICATION--
A. Did the gift of fifteen years of life cause Hezekiah to
be a better person?
1. No man knows when he will die, but "after death, the judgment."
Hebrews 9:27
2. Moses wrote, "So teach us to number our days, that we
may apply our hearts unto wisdom." (Psalm 90:12)
B. Carelessness in preparation for death is a tragedy.
1. Jesus gives us warning. Matthew 24:35-51
2. Complacency leads to the destruction of Hell.
APPEAL-- If God gave you assurance that you would live a certain number of years, would you "set your house in order," or would you neglect this serious matter? Since we do not know the day, it is more important that we prepare to meet God.
