WHAT IS EASY AND WHAT IS HARD ABOUT LIVING THE
CHRISTIAN LIFE?
TEXT: Hebrews 5:8-14 "...though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things
which he suffered; 9 and having been made perfect, he became unto all them that obey him
the author of eternal salvation; 10 named of God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard of interpretation, seeing ye are become
dull of hearing. 12 For when by reason of the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need
again that some one teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and
are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food. 13 For every one that partaketh of
milk is without experience of the word of righteousness; for he is a babe. 14 But solid food is
for fullgrown men, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern
good and evil."

- The same Lord who said, "My yoke is EASY, and my burden is LIGHT," also spoke
many "hard things" which made His disciples cringe. John 6:53-68
- "Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh
of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves. 54 He that eateth my
flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 55
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh and
drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him......60 Many therefore of his disciples,
when the heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it? 61 But Jesus knowing
in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said unto them, Doth this cause you to
stumble? 62 What then if ye should behold the Son of man ascending where he was
before? 63 It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I have
spoken unto you are spirit, and are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For
Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who it was that
should betray him. 65 And he said, For this cause have I said unto you, that no man can
come unto me, except it be given unto him of the Father. 66 Upon this many of his
disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Jesus said therefore unto the
