I.INTRODUCTION--It is "foolish" to go to meet the "Bridegroom" with no "oil in vessels" as well as "lamps." The door is shut and the Bridegroom says, "I never knew you!"
II. LESSON-- There are no shortcuts to heaven.
A. You cannot believe in the God of the Bible without believing in the Christ of the
Bible.
1. John 5:22-23 "For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all
judgment unto the Son; 23 that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the
Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him."
2. John 14:1-9 "Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In
my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I
go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again,
and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And
whither I go, ye know the way. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither
thou goest; how know we the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the
truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me,
ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen
him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus
saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me,
Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Show us the
Father?"
B. You cannot believe in Christ without receiving and obeying the words He
spoke.
1.John 14:10-11 "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the
words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth
his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe
me for the very works' sake."
2.John 12:44-50 "And Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on
me, but on him that sent me. 45 And he that beholdeth me beholdeth him that sent
me. 46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me may not
abide in the darkness. 47 And if any man hear my sayings, and keep them not, I
judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He that
rejecteth me, and receiveth not my sayings, hath one that judgeth him: the word that
I spake, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49 For I spake not from myself; but
the Father that sent me, he hath given me a commandment, what I should say, and
what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life eternal: the things
therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak."
3.(NOTE: Rejection of the words of the messengers is an offense as serious as
the rejection of the words of Christ, Luke 10:16 "He that heareth you heareth
me; and he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth him that
sent me.")
C.You cannot believe in the saving effect of the death of Christ without believ-ing
in His resurrection.
1. Romans 4:22-25 "Wherefore also it was reckoned unto him for righteousness. 23
Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was reckoned unto him; 24 but for
our sake also, unto whom it shall be reckoned, who believe on him that raised Jesus
our Lord from the dead, 25 who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised
for our justification."
2.1 Corinthians 15:12-19 "Now if Christ is preached that he hath been raised from the
dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if
there is no resurrection of the dead, neither hath Christ been raised: 14 and if Christ
hath not been raised, then is our preaching vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Yea, we
are found false witnesses of God; because we witnessed of God that he raised up
Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead
are not raised, neither hath Christ been raised: 17 and if Christ hath not been raised,
your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also that are fallen asleep in
Christ have perished. 19 If we have only hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men
most pitiable."
D. You cannot contend for belief in the heart without confession in the mouth.
Romans 10:9-10 "Because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt
believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved: 10 for with
the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation."
E. You cannot believe in the necessity of faith in Christ without believing in baptism
into Christ.. Mark 16:15-16, Galatians 3:26-27
F. You cannot believe in the necessity of repentance for the remission of sins without
believing in baptism for the remission of sins..
1.Luke 24:46-47 "And he said unto them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should
suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day; 47 and that repentance and
remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from
Jerusalem."
2.Acts 2:38
G.You cannot believe in obedience to the terms of redemption without believing in
faithfulness to God for eternal redemption.
1.Colossians 1:21-23 "And you, being in time past alienated and enemies in your
mind in your evil works, 22 yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh
through death, to present you holy and without blemish and unreproveable before
him: 23 if so be that ye continue in the faith, grounded and stedfast, and not moved
away from the hope of the gospel which ye heard, which was preached in all creation
under heaven; whereof I Paul was made a minister."
2. Colossians 3:1-4 "If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that
are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the
things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth. 3 For ye died, and
your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also with him be manifested in glory."
III.APPEAL--It is just common sense that if God speaks to us in his word, we must listen to the whole story, to make adequate preparation to "meet the Bride-groom."
