"Not so, Lord!"

INTRODUCTION-- Jesus told His disciples, after His resurrection, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth" (Matthew 28:18). Before His death, however, He had some difficulty in convincing His disciples of His total authority.

A.The disciples recognized that He spoke with authority. Matthew 7:28-29
(Distinguish between £u ð¤ÿ and £¤«ÿ„œ

B.They acknowledged His extraordinary authority over the elements of nature. Luke 8:22-25

LESSON-- His ordinary appearance may have caused them to treat him as a man with ordinary authority. Peter was the one who had the most trouble.

A.When Jesus' message did not fit his pre-conceived ideas, he resisted it. Matthew 16:21-24

B.When he disapproved of Jesus' gesture of humility, he objected. John 13:3 17

C.When God's insinuations ran contrary to his traditional values, he was reluctant to obey. Acts 10:9-16, 25-28
1.Peter's reluctance showed that he did not realize the significance of his own prophecy on the day of Pentecost. Acts 2:39
2.His mention of those who were "far off" included the Gentiles. Ephesians 2:11-22

APPLICATION-- When we say "Not so, Lord," it is a contradiction. The Lord has "all authority," and we are most enlightened and blessed, when we answer, "Speak Lord, thy servant heareth."
