We are happy to be associated with the Christians at Walnut Street church of Christ. The sign outside states, "church of Christ meets here" which is so true. It isn't the building that is the focus of our worship, but our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. There are so many "churches" here in our area so why would we travel thirty minutes twice each week to worship with like minded people? Because of what is taught, how it is taught and why it is taught.
What is taught is truth. The Bible is our only guide whether you use an American Standard Version or a newer translation like I do, the New Century Version. It is God's word that we live by, not a creed made by man or "the church" but only what is in the scriptures. We also do not cherry pick what we accept. There are things in the scriptures that sometimes seem odd for people, but we must study and determine what it is that God wants us to do before we claim we know the truth.
For example: Who is the person that should be baptized? Is the child a candidate for that covenant with God? The answer is NO, and the reason is because only believers are to answer for their sins. An innocent child is not in any state of condemnation. The Bible says the sins of the Father will not be upon the child and the sin of the son will not be on the father.
I believe in the scripture being infallible and all that is needed for me. I don't need the "Book of Mormon" or "The Koran" as the Bible tells me in Galatians 1:6-9 "I can't believe your fickleness—how easily you have turned traitor to him who called you by the grace of Christ by embracing a variant message! It is not a minor variation, you know; it is completely other, an alien message, a no-message, a lie about God. Those who are provoking this agitation among you are turning the Message of Christ on its head. Let me be blunt: If one of us—even if an angel from heaven!—we're to preach something other than what we preached originally, let him be cursed. I said it once; I'll say it again: If anyone, regardless of reputation or credentials, preaches something other than what you received originally, let him be cursed." (the Message)
